History
Department of Midwifery
History of the Department has started in 2005 when the Department of Nursing divided and the new Department of non-Medical Study Programs was established. Assoc. Prof. Želmíra Fetisovová, M.D., PhD. became its first head. She led the Department until 2008. The reason of this organisation change was to cover undergraduate education in non-medical study programs in the JFM CU. Since 2008, Assoc. Prof. Martina Bašková, M.N., PhD. has been head of the Department.
Considering research profilation of its personnel, the Department started to focus particularly on undergraduate bachelor education in midwifery as full-time study. In September 2011, the education has been extended to master degree study as the first in Slovakia. On 1st of May 2013 the Department has been renamed to the Department of Midwifery.
The Department cooperated with several renown international institutions such as European Midwifery Association (EMA) and International Confederation of Midwifery (ICM). In the frame of this cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Martina Bašková, M.D., PhD. was co-opted into the scientific committee of the ICM and Eva Urbanová, M.N., PhD. into the organization committee of the 30th ICM Triennial Congress held at Prague in 2014.
